We believe that music should be a part of the mainstream education curriculm because of its ability to help young people learn confidence through team work and self discipline. It has been shown over and over that music promotes brain development in young people and helps fine tune the brain stem. New information points to potential benefits in the areas of speech and understanding language.
For years people have been stating that the Mozart Effect has some merit. It implies that listening to music will help you do better in other areas of study. We are now realizing that music is a basic intelligence of human beings just as linguistics, interpersonal, logic, and others are. Some individuals accel in music more than others, but everyone has a basic ability to understand and demonstrate musical ideas and concepts.
Across the nation, music teachers are fighting to keep music in the classroom, and they need the help of everyone. It is important that the general public understand the value of music education for all students. Budget cuts are common in edcuation these days, and it is the arts and extracurricular classes that are the first to be cut. It is also important that the public demand that music remain in all levels of public education so that we may help kids do better in all their classes. We must fight for the future of our kids and our cultural heritage.
